Course Description
Foundations for Best Practice in Lactation Care: The 5 Day Course, is a complete, in-person, core program to begin practice in evidence-based breastfeeding and lactation care. Participants will be able to provide accurate, current and consistent information about breastfeeding and lactation and be able to support new families in feeding their babies from birth through the process of weaning. Each participant will be given the knowledge to work with other healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care for breastfeeding mothers and infants.
Who Should Attend

At the conclusion of this training, you will be able to:
1.Describe how misunderstanding infant behavior leads to early weaning
2.Tell the difference between the 6 infant states of arousal and awareness
3.List the difference between types of infant cues
4.Describe normal infant sleep patterns in the first 6 months of life
5.List 2 factors associated with “persistent crying” among young infants
6.List at least 3 “Baby Behavior” messages you can share with parents

This course is designed for health care professionals who want to improve their lactation skills, or for students who want to become lactation consultants. Taking the entire course meets the 90 hour lactation training requirement needed for the IBLCE Lactation Consultant exam in 2012 or later.

· Want to prepare to recertify for the IBLCE exam
· Need to recertify because you have let your IBCLC “lapse”
· Want to prepare to take the IBLCE exam for the first time
· Have recently completed a 3-6 day breastfeeding program before 2011 & want to update your knowledge. If the 3-6 day program was in 2011 you may still take the May 18 exam review.
· Are an IBCLC and want to earn CERPs while updating your knowledge

This course is designed for you if you meet ONE or more of the following criteria:
