This conference will provide the multidisciplinary perinatal team with research and evidence to inspire them to examine their current practice and consider change that will promote best practice in caring for the opioid-addicted patient, the patient in second stage of labor and the breastfeeding couplet.
Learn about the physiology of bilirubin metabolism with an update on how to manage breastfeeding and jaundice.
Describe the benefits to neonatal and breast milk jaundice.
Identify two phases of the second stage of labor.
Describe maternal and fetal factors that influence fetal descent.
Describe ways in which maternal positioning can reduce the risk of urogynecological injury.
Describe the most common intrapartum care practices that lead to litigation and identify strategies including “SBAR” that can reduce the potential for error and injury.

Review the physiology of pain, the effects of opioid dependence on pain control and learn one approach to intrapartum and postpartum pain management for the opioid dependent patient.
This conference is for physicians, nurses, midwives, nurse practitioners, case managers, social workers, childbirth educators, lactation consultants, WIC staff and other health care professionals who care for pregnant and lactating women.
