This year's Annual Conference of the Association of Lactation Consultants in Ireland takes place on Friday September 16th 2011 in The Strand Hotel, Limerick. The theme is “Breastfeeding – Affordable In A Recession” and the keynote speaker is Diana West IBCLC, co-author of The Womanly Art Of Breastfeeding (8th Ed), co-author of The Breastfeeding Mother's Guide to Making More Milk, co-author of Breastfeeding After Breast and Nipple Procedures, author of the Clinician's Breastfeeding Triage Tool and Defining Your Own Success: Breastfeeding After Breast Reduction Surgery. At the conference she will speak on the topic of low milk supply.
Other topics covered will be immunology, prematurity, herbal medicine and hypernatremia. It is hoped that this combination of topics and speakers will provide stimulation and interest for all attending. ALCI has applied for a total of 6 IBLCE CERPs for those attending the full day, and the event is approved by An Bord Altranais. CME Accreditation is applied for. A study day pack and refreshments are included in the delegate fee, which is € 80 for members and € 90 for non members at the Early Bird rate (before Wednesday September 7th). Delegates can choose to opt-out of lunch for a reduction of € 20 and there is an Undergraduate Student rate of € 25. Diana West will also speak on ‘Practical Issues on Making More Milk’ on Thursday September 15th in the Parent Education Centre, St. Munchin’s Midwestern Regional Maternity Hospital, Limerick from 8-9pm.
